More anti-piracy raids on shops during festive season

Raids on counterfeit goods will be carried out not just at shopping areas such as Jalan TAR or Petaling Street but also at boutiques.

KUALA LUMPUR: Enforcement action against the sale of counterfeit goods will be stepped up during the festive season, deputy domestic trade and consumer affairs minister Rosol Wahid said today.

He said such enforcement action was still being carried out despite the focus on the implementation of the festive season price controls.

The operation and inspection against the sale of counterfeit goods will be focused not only at the wholesale and business areas such as Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Petaling Street, but also at boutiques, he added.

The operation will also be conducted at all levels including suppliers and retailers based on intelligence and public complaints.

“For example, we find some boutiques selling counterfeit goods at the original prices and this is an offence for cheating consumers”, he told reporters after launching the programme Advocating Smart Consumers and #ShoppingstreetJalanTAR here today.

He said Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman was chosen because it is the focus of shoppers from the local community especially during the festive seasons. - FMT
