An opposition MP today questioned the cost of a recently held breaking of the fast feast by Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA).
In a statement today, Johor Bahru MP Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said although the communal breaking of fast was encouraged during Ramadan, public funds should not be involved.
"Don't do something that will cause (PR1MA) home buyers to feel like they are victims.
"These people have to pay the bank monthly for houses that have yet to be completed, yet you can host a big event like this," said Akmal.
Akmal said PR1MA should prioritise home buyers.
The breaking of the fast event took place on April 15 at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur. It was officiated by PR1MA chairperson and Arau MP Shahidan Kassim.
PR1MA was launched in 2011 by the Najib Abdul Razak administration and was touted as an affordable housing solution targeted at middle-income groups.
Buyers would have to ballot for these properties. The goal was to build 500,000 units by 2020.
However, many PR1MA projects have been plagued with late deliveries and cancellations.
In December last year, Parliament was told that the government has paid RM172 million in compensation for cancelled PR1MA projects.
VPC Asia Pacific property consultant Bruce Lee told The Malaysian Reserve in 2019 that PR1MA was doomed to fail because it was focused on serving a political agenda rather than being a market-driven initiative. - Mkini
