PETALING JAYA: A 41-year-old woman was killed on the spot while her teenage daughter was seriously injured following a six-vehicle crash at a traffic light junction in Muar this morning.
Muar police chief Zaharudin Rasip said Norain Abu Samah was driving the car when a Toyota Hilux crashed into her after allegedly beating a red light.
He said her 19-year-old daughter, Nur Nabila Alisha Mohd Zalisham, who was in the front passenger’s seat, sustained serious injuries.
Zaharudin said 14 others, including the driver of the pick-up vehicle and those in four other cars that were hit, escaped injuries.
“Early investigations show the Toyota Hilux driver was headed for Muar town at high speed.
“Because of the impact of the crash, the Toyota Hilux landed on the opposite lane, where it hit four other cars,” Zaharudin told reporters.
He said police had taken the driver’s blood and urine samples to ascertain if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for dangerous driving.
