PETALING JAYA: Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay today warned the public against investing and participating in a unique Raya treats business programme in the Kulai district that promises high returns.

In a statement, Ayob Khan said the scammers offered a business opportunity to sell Raya cakes with capital as little as RM500.

He said the victims were also promised an additional capital of RM1,500 and 1,600 jars of Raya treats to be marketed abroad.

He said victims who had fallen prey to the offer were instructed to deposit money into the personal bank account of an individual who claimed to represent the programme.

According to one of the victims, a meeting was held on Dec 11 last year between the scammers and the victims.

Potential investors were shocked when they were instructed to make an additional payment to purchase equipment — something they were not told previously.

Ayob Khan said none of the investors had received the promised RM1,500 in additional capital. This led the investors to lodge police reports.

To date, three police reports have been lodged at the Kulai police station and an investigation paper has been opened.

He said those with information related to the case were urged to come forward to the Kulai police station to assist in the investigation.

“Johor police advise the public, especially during Ramadan, to be more careful with such business offers.” - FMT
