PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said a political group which opposed the emergency order was not concerned about the Covid-19 pandemic which had claimed the lives of many around the world.
Hadi opined that political extremists are worse than religious extremists as the number of victims from Covid-19 pandemic is larger than victims of the bombing acts.
"Their greed is worse than religious extremists that had detonated bombs and killed their victims in smaller numbers as compared to the victims of the Covid-19 pandemic which had now spread across the world.
"In Malaysia, a group which opposed the emergency (declared) due to the pandemic has surfaced. It's as if they are not on Earth which is affected by the outbreak.
"Their excuses are political in nature in a bid to reclaim power.
"But they don't care at all about the possibility of danger to come by orchestrating political moves all the time without taking into consideration the pandemic which has claimed (so many) lives around the world," he said in his article published on the party's organ Harakah Daily today.
Hadi added that the group hid behind economic and security excuses for its excessive politicking.
In January, the government had declared an emergency in a bid to contain the resurgence of Covid-19 cases, which came with the suspension of parliamentary sitting.
Opposition leaders and some from the government bench had opposed the emergency and called for the government to reconvene Parliament.
Subsequently, the opposition and NGOs had joined hands to form the Committee to End Emergency spearheaded by Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah had granted his consent to meet the committee for it to submit its memorandum at a date which will be determined later. - Mkini
