PETALING JAYA: A vote on a new government is needed, either by Parliament or by the people, despite Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s high approval rating in an opinion survey, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said today.
Citing a recent survey by Merdeka Center, Lim said 46% of the respondents believed the country was “heading in the wrong direction”, against the 41% who believed that the country was moving in the “right direction”.
“Clearly the unelected Perikatan Nasional government cannot get the country moving in the right direction again,” he said in a statement, calling for democracy to prevail by allowing Parliament or the people to decide on a new government.
Lim said that although Muhyiddin had recorded a 67% approval rating “despite his failure to manage the triple crisis of Covid-19, political instability, and economic recession”, Muhyiddin continued to appear to be politically insecure.
He urged Muhyiddin to “confidently reopen Parliament ” and prepare to call for a general election to gain his own electoral mandate. - FMT
