Sarawak to remain under CMCO until April 26 - Uggah

The whole of Sarawak will remain under the conditional movement control order (MCO) until April 26, said Deputy Chief Minister Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah, who is also the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairperson, at the moment, MCO would not be implemented in the state.

"SDMC's main concern in the implementation of the MCO is the ability and effectiveness of enforcement in a wider area.

"The conditional MCO implementation with clear standard operating procedures (SOPs) and strict enforcement is more effective in reducing and curbing the spread of Covid-19,” he said at a press conference in Kuching today.

Yesterday, the National Security Council announced the implementation of MCO at five districts in Sarawak, but the directive was withdrawn later.

Meanwhile, Uggah said SDMC will continue to impose the enhanced MCO at high-risk areas in Sarawak as it would be easier to manage and implement, especially in areas under lockdown or targeted areas.

512 new Covid-19 positive cases and two fatalities were recorded in Sarawak today.
