KUALA LUMPUR: A 'Program Kerjaya UP' (Urban Poor Career Programme) will be launched in an effort to lessen the unemployment rate among the vulnerable living in the city. The programme, organised by the Human Resources Ministry through the Social Security Organisation (Socso) would consist of interview sessions for these individuals, to support their livelihood.
Socso chief executive Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the 'Program Kerjaya UP' was a followup from the profiling session of Socso's 'Jom Kerja' programme which was held in several public housing areas and People's Housing Projects in March this year.
"The 'Jom Kerja' programme has identified vulnerable groups, including those in the B40, who have been badly affected socially and economically due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Through this profiling session, Socso, together with the ministry and relevant agencies have worked together to offer various services to fulfill the needs of these groups.
"The Program Kerjaya UP will provide, among others, career counselling, resume and interview clinics, Companies Commission of Malaysia business registration counters, as well as entrepreneurship and financial advisory services, training and e-Kasih registration," he said in a statement today.
Free transportation would also be provided in selected locations for job seekers who need them.
Azman said the highlight of the Program Kerjaya UP would be held at the Setiawangsa Community Centre in Kuala Lumpur on April 12, with interview sessions by employers of various industries offering 10,305 vacancies.
He also said the 'Program Penjana Kerjaya UP' was also being held in selected states outside the Klang Valley.
"Socso hopes that job seekers from the urban B40 groups would take this opportunity to find work to sustain themselves.
