The status of all states currently under the conditional movement control order (MCO) and recovery MCO has been extended from April 15 to April 26, according to Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Ahead of the initial April 14 review date for conditional MCO and recovery MCO states, Ismail (above) today said Kuala Lumpur and five other states - Selangor, Johor, Penang, Kelantan and Sarawak - continue to record either a high number of red zones or an increase in positive cases and new red zones.
As such, he said the areas, including Sarawak, whose status announced yesterday, will remain under the conditional MCO beginning Thursday.
Meanwhile, Ismail said the remaining eight states, along with Putrajaya and Labuan, will remain under the recovery MCO from Thursday until April 26.
"However, inter-state travels are still not allowed, except for tourism activities between recovery MCO states according to the green travel bubble via tourism agents registered with the Tourism Ministry," he said at a Covid-19 non-health updates press conference in Putrajaya today.
Ismail said permission for inter-district travels would also remain, with the exception of Sarawak and Sabah.
Unlike last year, Ismail noted there would be slight changes to the standard operating procedure for the Ramadan month starting tomorrow, with permission granted for mosques to conduct the nightly terawih prayers.
He cautioned that Malaysia is still not free from the threat of Covid-19, citing a Health Ministry advisory of a possible fourth wave of infections.
Commenting on the Kelantan state government's move to ban Ramadan bazaars, despite permission granted by the National Security Council, Ismail said states have the power to tighten the rules but not to impose less stringent procedures. - Mkini
