DAP Teratai assemblyperson Bryan Lai has resigned as Selangor organising secretary amidst extramarital affairs allegation. The party post will be temporarily helmed by Banting assemblyperson Lau Weng San.
This was announced by Selangor DAP chairperson Gobind Singh Deo in a statement today after receiving the resignation letter from Lai.
"Yesterday, I chaired the meetings with Selangor DAP executive committee members and we decided to accept his resignation," Gobind said.
He added that Lai (above) retained himself as a DAP member and DAP Teratai assemblyperson.
Gobind said the state DAP committee would transfer the issue to the party disciplinary committee for further follow-up.
However, the state chairperson did not mention the reason for Lai's resignation and the need to submit the matter to the disciplinary committee.
In the meantime, Selangor DAP treasurer Ng Sze Han related the matter to the recent rumours criticising Lai for having extramarital relations.
Ng said the state committee, therefore, accepted his resignation when he submitted the letter.
"In his letter, he mentioned that if this issue has caused any trouble to the party, he is willing to apologise to the party and resign," Ng said when contacted by Malaysiakini.
When contacted, Lai confirmed his resignation and said he would wait for any further directive from the party.
Asked about the relation between the recent allegation and his resignation, Lai said: “I have no comment about that.” - Mkini
