If Zahid and Zeti testify and back up Najib’s story, he should not even have been convicted in the first place. So, what happened? How was Najib convicted when Zahid and Zeti can confirm that Najib is telling the truth and that the money came from the Saudi King and was not stolen from 1MDB?
NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been telling many people that he personally flew to Saudi Arabia to meet Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah who donated RM2.6 billion to Najib Tun Razak. Zahid also said he personally sighted the documents regarding the RM2.6 billion donation that Najib received. And it seems Zahid was not alone. He was part of a delegation comprising a few people.
Ad hoc prosecutor, V. Sithambaram, however, rubbished this story and said it was a fake story meant to prop up a weak defence.
Zahid said he personally met the Saudi King to confirm the RM2.6 billion was His Majesty’s donation to Najib
This is what Malay Mail Online reported today:
Sithambaram described Najib’s defence as highly improbable and doubtful, citing the numerous evidence inconsistencies and contradictions submitted on the purported meeting with then monarch of Saudi Arabia, the late King Abdullah (who died in January 2015).
According to the defence, the Arab donations were a pledge of support from the King which occurred at a personal meeting that was arranged by fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low, who according Najib enjoyed a close relationship with the Saudi Royal family.
This meeting was held in January 2010 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where Najib met the King with several other individuals namely, former Malaysian ambassador to Saudi Arabia Datuk Syed Omar Al Saggaf including former ministers Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.
Zahid’s testimony would have cleared Najib so why was he found guilty?
“The defence witnesses seem to be in disagreement as to when the purported financial donation meeting with the King occurred. DW4 and DW5 testified that it took place during an informal meeting on January 11, 2010, prior to the formal meeting from January 13 to 16, 2010. On the other hand, DW6 testified that it took place during the official meeting on January 13 to 16, 2010,” Sithambaram said.
“This lack of confirmation from official channels which would normally occur between leaders of sovereign nations is very telling that this so-called Arab donation is but a sham defence,” he added. (READ MORE HERE)
Okay, whatever it may be, Zahid did fly to Saudi Arabia to meet the King and he did sight the documents that prove the King gave Najib RM2.6 billion. So why can’t Zahid testify in court during Najib’s trial?
Did Najib’s lawyers speak to Zahid and get him to confirm that the money did indeed come from the Saudi King and that it was a donation?
It seems it was Zeti’s idea that the RM2.6 billion be banked into Najib’s personal bank account
It seems, before the RM2.6 billion was brought into the country, Najib first spoke to Bank Negara Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz. And the reason was to discuss the manner in which this RM2.6 billion should be brought in. And it seems Zeti suggested it be banked into Najib’s personally account rather than into Umno’s bank account to avoid complications (such as the Registrar of Societies and the Election Commission need not know about it).
So Zeti was also involved in the “crime” of “smuggling” the RM2.6 billion into Malaysia and in the “crime” of hiding it from the Registrar of Societies and the Election Commission (if the EC/SPR knew about it, all the Barisan Nasional candidates in the general election would be disqualified since they spent more than the allowed limit).
So, there are two crucial witnesses (in fact, participants) in the RM2.6 billion donation Najib received from the Saudi King — Zahid and Zeti. And both these people can back up Najib’s story and help clear his name. So why are Zahid and Zeti not doing this?
If Zahid and Zeti testify and back up Najib’s story, he should not even have been convicted in the first place. So, what happened? How was Najib convicted when Zahid and Zeti can confirm that Najib is telling the truth and that the money came from the Saudi King and was not stolen from 1MDB?
