PETALING JAYA: Prasarana chairman Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has confirmed that police will be questioning him over not wearing a face mask during a recent press conference.
Tajuddin said he decided to wear a face shield as it would be easier for the press to hear him.
“I was told the face shield was good enough,” he told FMT.
He said he wore a face mask during his visit to the LRT tunnel and a walkabout, except during the press conference yesterday.
The Pasir Salak MP also confirmed that police would be questioning him over the issue.
In a statement today, Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said those involved in the case would be called to the Dang Wangi police headquarters to give their statements.
During a press conference yesterday at the KLCC LRT station, Tajuddin was photographed wearing a face shield, without a mask. The health ministry has said face masks must be worn under face shields.
Tajuddin was at the LRT station yesterday morning after a collision between two LRT trains the night before, which left 213 injured. Prasarana operates the Kelana Jaya LRT line.
“I am sorry if the face shield was not good enough,” said Tajuddin. “The shield is not an ordinary shield, (it was) specially ordered from a reliable source.”
He said the police may want to investigate him because some people were unhappy that he wasn’t wearing a mask.
“But how do you talk during a press conference with a face mask? So, I thought a (transparent) shield would be better,” he added.
Tajuddin’s face shield went viral on social media with some users questioning the reason for the MP wearing only a face shield and not a face mask. - FMT
