Malaysians urge Najib to pay chicken rice shop owner's RM10,000 SOP violation ‘tab'

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians have expressed their sympathies towards the chicken rice shop owner who was fined and have urged former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to pick up the tab instead.

On Facebook, Sunny Lim Teng Chuan said it was sad that the chicken rice shop had to “pay” for Najib’s failure in adhering to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“Sadly the shop has to bear the brunt, when it should be the other way around. Hope bossku (Najib) picks up both tabs, ” he said.

Joe CL also concurred that Najib should help the restaurant owner to pay the fine.

Similarly, @Trigger McBurn also agreed.

“Perhaps he (Najib) should pay for the chicken rice shop as well, ” he said.

On May 6, it was reported that Yeok Wei Hao - the manager of Restoran Nasi Ayam Hainan Chee Meng - would be issued a RM10,000 compound for failing to instruct Najib to scan the MySejahtera QR code or logging his entry before entering the restaurant.

Najib, meanwhile, would be issued two RM1,500 compounds for failing to record his temperature as well as failing to register his entry at the restaurant.

Both parties were issued compounds for violating Rule 19 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations.

In a Facebook post on March 19, Najib had admitted that he did not register his details at the restaurant as he was brought straight into the restaurant upon arrival.

He added then that he was willing to pay the fine for his transgression. - Star
