No, you don’t need police permission to travel for vaccination, says KJ

 

Khairy Jamaluddin says the police only need proof of vaccination appointments at district and state boundaries, contrary to Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s claim.

PETALING JAYA: Those scheduled to be vaccinated don’t need police permission to travel across states or districts for their jab, the minister in charge of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin has clarified.

In rebutting a statement earlier by senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Khairy said: “For MCO districts, you WILL be allowed to cross district lines for your vaccination appointment. Just show proof of your appointment on MySejahtera, website or SMS at district boundaries.

“You will not require a letter from the police,” he said in a tweet.

His tweet came soon after Ismail was reported as saying that those who need to travel interstate or inter-district for their vaccination will require the standard approval letter from the police. He said this had been decided upon long ago.

He said this when announcing that six districts in Selangor, all districts in Kelantan and five in Kedah will be placed under the movement control order from May 6.

Interstate and inter-district travel are prohibited under the MCO.

Recently, Putrajaya offered the AstraZeneca vaccine on a voluntary basis and all 268,000 vaccination slots for residents of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor were snapped up within three hours.

The administration of the vaccines began yesterday, with many travelling across districts to be inoculated.

A million more doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are expected this month via the Covax facility, and the ministry will expand the registration to other states, except Sarawak which has declined to be included. - FMT
