Special ops nationwide to nab traffic offenders from May 10-16

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will conduct Ops Rentas to focus on traffic offenders nationwide from May 10 until May 16.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Deputy Comm Datuk Azisman Alias said the department discovered there was a stark increase in traffic flow at main roads and expressways lately.

"JSPT has deployed traffic policemen to monitor and conduct traffic management on May 3, prior to the start of Ops Rentas.

"Ops Rentas, which will be conducted from May 10 until May 16, will adopt a total enforcement concept, show of force and advocating for the public," he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 4).

The police will focus on six main offences, which are driving on the emergency lane, speeding, overtaking on double lines, not adhering to traffic lights regulations and using mobile phones while driving," DCP Azisman said.

"Ops Rentas will include accident-prone and traffic congestion areas, traffic light junctions, violations of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) at taxi and bus terminals as well as Rest and Relax (R&R) areas.

"Other operations such as Ops Samseng Jalanan, Ops Lancar, Ops Motosikal and roadblocks will be conducted to check those who travel interstate without permission," he added.

DCP Azisman reminded road users to adhere to traffic regulations and Covid-19 SOP throughout the Hari Raya festive season.

"Stern action will be taken on those who violate the regulations and SOP," he said. - Star
