Activist Aiman Hakim Zainal Ariffin, who was detained by the police yesterday to assist investigations into a Twitter posting, was to be released today on police bail.
His lawyers Rajsurian Pillai and R Morhaneraj confirmed this matter to Malaysiakini today.
“Magistrate Nur Aslamiah Jamil only gave a one-day remand for procedures like taking fingerprints and photographs which require less than 10 minutes only.
“Aiman (above) already gave his statement yesterday. And he said he also gave the password to his smartphone that was confiscated.
“So, the police’s request for a four-day remand was rejected by the magistrate. This means Aiman will be released today,” they said.
For the record, Aiman was arrested by the police yesterday after he was called in for questioning at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters in Kuala Lumpur in relation to a posting from Twitter account @aimanhkim.
He was detained to help with investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. - Mkini
