The Ampang Hospital in Ampang Jaya, Selangor has been converted into a full Covid-19 hospital, making it the second full Covid-19 hospital in Selangor, after the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
“The Selangor Health Department has decided to change the status of Ampang Hospital from a hybrid Covid-19 hospital to a full Covid-19 hospital starting immediately on June 23, 2021.
“This decision was made following the sharp and continuous increase in daily cases, especially involving patients in Category 3 and above in the middle district zones,” said Selangor health director Sha’ari Ngadiman in a circular dated June 22, which was sighted by Malaysiakini.
He said the high number of daily cases has overwhelmed the capacity of hospital beds, to the point that the low-risk quarantine centre Maeps was facing difficulty referring patients in need of hospital treatment.
He added that all referrals of non-Covid-19 patients from other facilities to the Ampang Hospital has to be stopped temporarily.
Sungai Buloh Hospital became the main designated Covid-19 hospital back in March 2020, at the start of the pandemic. - Mkini
