Covid-19 (June 11): 6,849 new cases with 84 deaths, half of new cases in Klang Valley alone

The Health Ministry today reported another 6,849 new Covid-19 cases have been detected in the past 24-hour period ending noon.

Active cases is continuing on a four-day downtrend but the number of people needing intensive care has reached a new record.

In June alone, the Health Ministry has reported that 972 people died as a direct result of Covid-19.

That translates to 3.7 deaths every hour, which is seven times higher than the number of people who die due to road accidents in 2020.

  • Active cases: 78,864
  • Patients in ICUs: 912
  • Intubated: 458

Over the past 24 hours, 99,974 individuals were sampled. This translates to a 6.85 percent positive rate. The World Health Orgnisation recommends that governments to aim for a positive rate of less than 5 percent, by conducting more tests.
