Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein will be meeting his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi next week on the sidelines of the Special Asean-China Foreign Ministers' meeting in Chongqing, China.
Wisma Putra said they will be exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the South China Sea.
Malaysia had handed a diplomatic note of protest to Beijing over the May 31 intrusion by Chinese warplanes off the coast of Sarawak.
"The two ministers will discuss the best way forward in ensuring such incident will not recur in the interest of maintaining peace and stability, and avoiding any miscalculation or unintended consequences," Wisma Putra said in a statement today.
Hishammuddin will also discuss Covid-19 vaccine cooperation, infrastructure development, finance, digital economy, food production and high-tech agriculture.
His last meeting with Wang was in early April. At the time, Hishammuddin came under fire for committing a diplomatic faux pas by referring to Wang as a "big brother" in poorly enunciated Chinese.
On the foreign ministers' meeting, Wisma Putra said the agenda will include the Covid-19 pandemic and other matters of concern.
Following the Special Asean-China Foreign Ministers' meeting, Hishammuddin will head to the middle east to visit Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar and Turkey.
On June 18, Hishammuddin will attend the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, which will be officiated by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and involve 37 participating nations. - Mkini
