Lawyer Veronica Wong today lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police station alleging that she was sexually harassed by a Chinese association leader.
In her report sighted by Malaysiakini, Wong said had repeatedly received sexually explicit content from Yeo Kwi Seng between May 23 and June 16 via WhatsApp.
She claimed that Yeo had, among others, made sexual jokes and asked her to engage in a sexual act with him.
"He also sent me sexual content - pornography videos, emojis, texts - without my permission. He encouraged me to share pornography videos.
"He made offensive comments and discriminated against me over my sexual life," she said, urging the police to take action against Yeo.
Malaysiakini has attempted to contact Yeo for comment.
In a statement today, Wong said she hopes her move to go public will bring awareness to the increased violence against women.
"My move is a difficult one because social conservation discourages people from speaking out.
"Women have taken to social media to name and shame harassers and I am one of the victims who took this step. But many have not, fearing the consequences of speaking out.
"The government should recall Parliament immediately and table the Sexual Harassment Bill. It is an important process to raise the status of women and improve the well-being of women in Malaysia," added Wong, who is the daughter of MCA veteran leader Wong Mook Leong.
On June 16, Wong had uploaded screenshots of text messages and called Yeo a sex pervert who allegedly harassed her via WhatsApp and telephone calls.
Yeo, meanwhile, claimed that he was extorted by an unknown man who demanded RM10,000 following the sexual harassment allegation against him.
He confirmed that he had lodged a police report on June 15 at the Cheras police station. - Mkini
