Man in pink wristband seen at Melaka minimart

MELAKA: With people succumbing to Covid 19 by the hundreds daily, the last thing one expects to see is someone wearing a pink health ministry wristband going for a joy ride, especially during the movement control order (MCO).

This is exactly what Sofea Abdullah witnessed outside a mini market along Jalan Ujong Pasir here on Saturday.

What horrified the retiree even more was that the youth who was obviously someone under home quarantine, wasn't even wearing a face mask.

"I was parked in front of the mini market on Saturday afternoon when a motorcyclist zoomed in and stopped next to my car.

"I noticed he wasn't wearing a mask. He then dashed into the mini-market with his helmet on, without even scanning the MySejahtera app or writing his particulars down."

Within a couple of minutes, the youth exited the shop and got onto his motorbike.

"He then proceeded to light a cigarette. And that was when I saw he had a pink KKM wristband. I was horrified!"

The youth was nonchalant as he sat on his motorbike for a while before speeding off in the direction of Padang Temu.

"I was shocked. At a time like this when people around us are dying, we have irresponsible and selfish people like this youth, who is either a Covid-19 positive person or someone who is a close contact, moving freely about and possibly spreading the virus.

"There must be a better way to keep track of people like these and the authorities should come down hard on them."

Sofea said the Ujong Pasir area is a Covid-19 red zone with 73 positive cases reported to date, the highest number in the state.

"I dread to think where else this person went and how he might have possibly infected others."

Sofea said the police have been informed about this case. - NST
