SOP breach: Police open investigation into Astro singing reality show

Police today said that they will open an investigation into a singing reality programme by Astro, which had allegedly breached rules set by the government to prevent Covid-19 infection when it was recorded several months ago.

This comes a day after the authority reportedly said that no probe would be carried out, citing that the programme which featured numerous celebrity judges was recorded before the government enforces the third round of movement control order (MCO) 3.0.

For the record, 'All Together Now Malaysia', a reality programme by Astro, came under fire recently after 50 judges were featured being in the same venue without wearing face masks.

"An investigation will be opened," Putrajaya district police chief Fadzil Ali told Malaysiakini in a text message today.

Malaysiakini had contacted Fadzil to check with him on the police decision not to investigate, as reported by Malay daily Kosmo! yesterday.

The news article quoted Fadzil as saying that they found the programme was recorded before MCO 3.0, and that it had received permission from the National Security Council (NSC).

Malaysiakini has forwarded further queries to the officer, including whether they will call all the judges and organiser for questioning.

It was reported that among the celebrity judges featured in the programme was artiste Dafi, who is the son of Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Dafi, or his real name Gaddafi Ismail Sabri, came under the spotlight as Ismail Sabri is the minister in charge of the NSC, which oversees MCO and enforcement of its SOPs.

Ismail Sabri had yesterday promised that no one will be spared if they breach rules, including his son. - Mkini
