KUALA LUMPUR: More than 400 people were arrested for violating the Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), even as the country continues to record significant increase in new infections over the past two days.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said out of the 417 arrested, 408 were issued with compounds while nine others were remanded.
"96 individuals were arrested for attempting to travel interstate and interdistrict without permit and for dining-in at restaurants, 74 for not wearing face masks, 58 for not practising physical distancing, 12 for disobeying orders pertaining to their premises, six employers for failing to adhere to the rules on the number of staff allowed to work or (refusing) to conduct screenings on workers, and 91 for other offences."
On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said one undocumented migrant was nabbed while two land vehicles and two boats were seized yesterday.
The enforcement authorities mounted 950 roadblocks nationwide yesterday.
Meanwhile, 766 returnees who arrived at the international arrival entries yesterday were ordered to undergo mandatory quarantine at designated centres.
Ismail Sabri also said 13 premises were slapped with compounds by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry during its special operation on SOP compliance involving manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers. - NST
