PETALING JAYA: A PAS leader has sought to explain what party president Abdul Hadi Awang meant by his use of the term “kerajaan Allah” in his statement yesterday.
Speaking to FMT, the Islamist party’s information chief Kamaruzaman Mohamad said the use of the term, which sparked controversy after it was misconstrued, was in reference to the belief of Muslims that efforts to fight Covid-19 will only succeed with Allah’s blessings.
This, he said, was because all humans had weaknesses and shortcomings.
Yesterday, Hadi spoke out against the “pandemic of politicking” in the country and said that the governments of men would have shortcomings.
Hadi had said those who were ignorant would seek to find faults instead of helping one another in addressing the pandemic.
The Marang MP’s statement drew reactions from various quarters, including DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang who subsequently retracted his statement and apologised for misunderstanding what Hadi had said.
Lim’s political secretary Syahredzan Johan had said the Iskandar Puteri MP had thought Hadi meant that only an “Islamic government” can tackle Covid-19.
Kamaruzaman said political leaders should be more careful in airing their views especially in matters pertaining to Islam. - FMT
