2 types of Red Notices, says IGP over ‘missing’ fugitives

Red Notices have been issued for Nicky Liow and Low Taek Jho but are for restricted circulation among law enforcement agencies, police say.

PETALING JAYA: Interpol Red Notices have been issued for fugitives Nicky Liow and Low Taek Jho but they are only for law enforcement agencies and not meant to be displayed for the general public, police said yesterday.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said there were two types of Red Notices, one that could be shared and displayed with the public and the other for restricted circulation to enforcement agencies.

“Interpol decides whether a Red Notice that is issued is meant for the public or not, depending on the levels of risk to the public,” he said in a statement to clarify whether Red Notices had been issued on Liow and Low, better known as Jho Low.

Acryl Sani had been quoted earlier yesterday as saying he was unsure why neither Liow nor Low had yet to appear on Interpol’s Red Notice list despite the notices being issued and approved.

A Red Notice is a request to law enforcement agencies around the world to locate and detain persons of interest.

In April, FMT reported that Interpol had issued Red Notices for Liow and his assistant, Chinese national Niu Zhe.

Liow is wanted for his involvement in organised crime, money laundering, Macau scams and commercial crimes while Low is linked to the 1MDB scandal. - FMT
