Kepong MP lauds High Court verdict in Muda approval case

DAP's Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has lauded the High Court decision to direct the Home Ministry to approve the registration of the youth-based party Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda).

"After several rejections, the party's registration case was brought to court and they delivered an important victory.

"Many other parties were registered without going through the same hard work as them as their registration applications were rejected three times and rejected without good reason.

"This is enough to prove that their continuous efforts have already borne fruit and they are also not young people who give in easily," Lim said in a statement today.

The multi-racial party led by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman had been in limbo for over a year after they first filed to register with the Registrar of Societies in September 2020.

With formal registration, Muda will be eligible to contest in future elections using its own banner.

However, it has expressed an interest to work with Pakatan Harapan, of which  DAP is a member.

Lim said that Muda's victory proves that the judiciary in this situation is an impartial body and had given a prudent judgment through a transparent process.

"We can also see that the court has found ex-premier Najib Abdul Razak guilty of breach of trust and misappropriation of SRC International funds when he took over as the sixth prime minister.

"The sentence on him was also given after all the evidence was presented to the court along with taking into account the harm to the people that he did on the basis of national interest.

"As the proverb says, 'justice will prevail'", added Lee.

Political landscape

He expressed his wishes that Muda would be a catalyst to encourage young people to be more proactive in the country's political landscape.

"It is time for the country's political field to be transformed and the country's young people to shift their own paradigm to be more active in the nation-building process.

"In the last Malacca state election, we also saw the rise of young candidates and their authority in leading.

"Age is not a barrier for them to prove that they are also capable of giving their efforts to help the people. If our young people can do it, we should give them space and opportunity to do it," said Lim. - Mkini
