Covid-19 deaths (Dec 11): 44 reported fatalities, total at 30,831

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported a total of 44 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Dec 10), bringing the cumulative death toll to 30,831.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 933 deaths per 1 million population.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 22.7 percent or 10 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

Johor recorded the highest number of new deaths at eight, making up 18.2 percent of the newly reported fatalities.

The remaining deaths were in Sabah (6), Terengganu (5), Pahang (4), Penang (4), Selangor (4), Sarawak (3), Kedah (2), Kelantan (2), Negeri Sembilan (2), Perak (2), Malacca (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1).

No new deaths were reported in Perlis, Labuan and Putrajaya.

A total of 38 out of the 44 reported deaths or 86.4 percent happened in the last seven days.

The remaining deaths happened more than a week ago but were only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.

An average of 45 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 42, indicating a downward trend.

To date, 517 Covid-19 deaths have been reported this month.

As of yesterday, there were 60,873 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 2.6 percent from the 62,486 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 3.2 percent from 62,892.

Cluster-linked infections

From the 5,058 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, a total of 190 of them could be traced to ongoing Covid-19 clusters.

From the cluster-linked cases, 122 (64.2 percent) were from workplaces while 52 (27.4 percent) were from education institutions.

The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to high-risk groups such as old folks homes (12 - 6.3 percent), religious events (3 - 1.6 percent) and community transmissions (1 - 0.5 percent).
