Four students arrested over bullying in boarding school

The four boys, all aged 13, were arrested when they presented themselves at the Kuala Kangsar district police headquarters after the video of the bullying went viral.

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested four students from a boarding school in Kuala Kangsar this afternoon after they were suspected of bullying a classmate in a viral video.

The video, which was posted on various social media platforms, shows a group of boys appearing to take turns hitting a fellow student and smiling when he doubled over in pain.

Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the four 13-year-olds were arrested when they presented themselves at the Kuala Kangsar district police headquarters, according to a report in Kosmo.

Mior said that an investigation paper was opened under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

He said eight students, including the victim, had been identified and called in to provide their statements.

He said the owner of the social media account on which the video was uploaded was also called in.

Preliminary investigations found that the incident happened between 1am and 2am yesterday, with the boarding school’s principal lodging a police report after the video went viral. - FMT
