PETALING JAYA: Former Umno stalwart Syed Hamid Albar, 78, who joined Bersatu in 2018, has decided to quit politics.
The former foreign minister announced in a Twitter post that he will no longer be a member of any political party.
Syed Hamid is the son of Umno stalwart Syed Jaafar Albar, whose defence of the party earned him the nickname Lion of Umno.
“I will focus my time on my legal practice and activities with NGOs,” said Syed Hamid, who joined Bersatu after quitting Umno in June 2018 and later became Bersatu’s election committee chief.
Syed Hamid was elected MP for Kota Tinggi in 1990 and served five terms until 2013 when he chose not to defend his seat. He has served as justice minister, defence minister, foreign minister and home minister, and later chairman of the land public transport commission (SPAD). - FMT
