BENTONG: Continuous heavy rain from 3am today caused several areas in Janda Baik to be hit by flash floods.

Several landslides were also reported in the district.

The Malaysian Civil Defence Force’s (APM) Bentong district disaster management committee said as of 8am, more than 140 houses had been flooded at Kampung Sum-Sum, Kampung Lampin, Kampung Cheringin and Kampung Pulau Santap.

“There have been no reports of any injuries,” it said in a statement.

Bentong district police chief Zaiham Kahar said the water level in the area was subsiding, and there were several landslides reported.

He said the relevant agencies had been deployed to help and control the situation.

Zaiham said the landslides had forced the closure of the old Bukit Tinggi-Genting Sempah road to vehicles, but the road heading towards Janda Baik was still passable.

“No temporary evacuation centre is open at the moment,” he said.

Highway concessionaire ANIH Bhd senior general manager Radzimah Mohd Radzi said in a statement the Km68 stretch of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway heading towards Kuala Lumpur was still safe to use, although some nearby areas were flooded due to heavy rain.

“ANIH Bhd is monitoring the water level of Sungai Bentong in preparation for any eventuality,” she said. - FMT
