Several areas in the Melaka Tengah district have been hit by flash floods following a four-hour heavy rain this morning.
The Melaka Tengah District Disaster Management Department said several roads in Batu Hampar and Ayer Keroh have been temporarily closed to traffic.
Kampung Pengkalan Rama Pantai and Kampung Mata Kuching are the areas mainly affected by the flood.
Other affected areas are Kampung Telok, Kampung Pulau Kelapa, Kampung Sungai Putat, Taman Peringgit Ria, and Bukit Cina, said the department in a statement today.
The situation is improving. There were no temporary evacuation centres open at 10am this morning.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the Melaka River Cruise (MRC) boat service was halted temporarily today due to the strong current, unpredictable weather, and high water level of Sungai Melaka.
In a statement, MRC said they will announce the resumption of the service once the situation has eased.
"Heavy rains have caused high water levels and the strong current in Sungai Melaka as well as unpredictable weather.
"As a result, the Melaka River Cruise boat service had to be suspended until the situation returns to normal," it said in a statement today. - Mkini
