PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced that the government will make it mandatory for childcare centres to be established in all government offices.

The directive applies to all federal government agencies, state governments and statutory bodies before it is extended to the private sector.

“The government has provided annual grants amounting to RM10 million and RM30 million for 2019 and 2020 respectively for this purpose.

“These centres would provide relief for workers with young children,” said Ismail in his Labour Day address today.

The policy to have childcare facilities in workplaces was earlier pushed by Pakatan Harapan when it was in power in Putrajaya.

Ismail also announced the “Program Pembiayaan Insurans Kenderaan Keluarga Malaysia” or MyEzCover.com. This vehicle insurance programme provides an interest-free monthly instalment package for 10 months.

It will be offered to workers in the public sector first before being extended to workers in the private sector.

This programme, according to Ismail, will be implemented by the human resources ministry in collaboration with Socso and Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa). - FMT
