Data leak: Bukit Aman launches investigation

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Department (CCID) has launched an investigation into an offer made online to sell millions of records from Putrajaya's MyIdentity database.

In a statement, CCID director Kamarudin Md Din confirmed that police have received a report on the claim and assured the public that they will do the necessary to address the issue.

"Referring to several articles published by online news portals regarding an allegation that data of Malaysians are being sold online, where the data were allegedly taken from the National Registration Department, CCID confirms that we have received a report on this issue.

"An investigation is being carried out to ascertain the validity of the claim," he said on Wednesday.

Kamarudin also urged the public to not make any speculation on the issue.

Yesterday, it was reported that millions of records from Putrajaya's MyIdentity database have allegedly been sold online.

The seller, known only as actifedot, placed an advertisement for data on a hacker forum known as breached.co on April 29.

This is the second time in which personal data of MyIdentity users have been sold since late last year. - Mkini
