KOTA KINABALU: Sindumin assemblyman Yusof Yacob, formerly of Warisan, has confirmed that he has applied to rejoin Barisan Nasional (BN).
The former Warisan man said he submitted his application form to Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin and would leave it to the Kinabatangan MP to decide on the matter.
“Prior to this, I voiced support for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-BN state government (GRS-BN) and the prime minister (Ismail Sabri Yaakob).
“We’ll just wait for time to pass (before I make an official announcement). We must forget the past and look to the future. We must also think about the future of Sabah and our next generation,” he told reporters when met at a BN Hari Raya event here today.
Yusof, who was Warisan’s information chief, had quit the Shafie Apdal-led party in October. He became the second Warisan assemblyman to quit last year.
He is currently an independent assemblyman but supports the GRS-BN state government led by chief minister Hajiji Noor.
Yusof was formerly from Umno and had a stint as Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker from 2004 to 2007.
Bung, who is Sabah deputy chief minister, confirmed receiving Yusof’s application and said an announcement would be made in a day or two.
He also welcomed the formation of a GRS-BN solidarity committee, saying it would strengthen ties between the different parties.
When asked about seat negotiations between GRS and BN for the coming general election, Bung said the matter “will be decided when the time comes”. - FMT
