First police report on money politics in PKR polls lodged

A PKR member has lodged a police report alleging being offered a bribe for a vote in the ongoing party elections.

M Soundarajan, 58, lodged his report on Tuesday at the Rasa police station, Hulu Selangor.

The trader claimed an incumbent office-bearer in the Hulu Selangor branch had gone to his business premise on Monday to campaign on behalf of a contesting branch leader.

"The person came to my shop, asking me and all PKR members under me to vote for the branch leader candidate he supports.

"The person promised to give RM50 to every member who voted for the branch leader candidate he supported. The person also promised me RM1,000 if I agreed to vote for the candidate," he said.

Soundarajan added he would also be lodging a report with PKR's central election committee for further actions to be taken against the person.

When contacted, Hulu Selangor district police chief Arsad Kamaruddin confirmed receiving the report.

"Yes, the police have received a report. This is an action for the party and MACC," said Arsad.

The PKR elections started on May 13 and will be ongoing for 10 days until May 22 for the branch leadership.

In Hulu Selangor, incumbent division chief June Leow Hsiad Hui is being challenged by SP Care group founder Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajah and businessperson Azizan Zakaria. -Mkini
