Good for ministers to experience traffic jams too, says Muda veep

It would be good for ministers to experience daily commutes like the rest of the public - traffic jams and all - said a Muda leader.

This was amid calls for the government and police to strictly limit the use of outriders for political VIPs.

Joining the chorus, Muda vice-president Zaidel Baharuddin said ministers should have to plan their travels if they want to get to their destinations on time.

“We wish to remind the ministers, who mostly stay around the Klang Valley, if they don’t want to be late to the office or programmes then leave early or use public transportation such as the LRT or MRT.

“It would be good for ministers to experience traffic jams due to highway construction that has not been completed for years and the ineffective public transport network,” he said in a statement today.

On Saturday, a video of two police outriders escorting the son of Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim in Penang was spread on social media - prompting public backlash and an internal police probe.

Zaidel reiterated calls for the usage of outriders to be restricted to those who really need security such as the prime minister, senior ministers, and those who qualify.

He said anyone else who needs an outrider must get approval from the Home Ministry or inspector-general of police if there are reasonable grounds.

He said the Home Ministry should also be strict that only security forces are allowed to act as outriders, and not local councils or non-traffic enforcement officers. - Mkini
