MCA Youth: PKR MP's claims on MRT3 'absurd, unprofessional'

An MCA Youth leader has taken a swipe at Tanjung Malim MP Chan Lih Kang's call for the government to halt the MRT3 project temporarily.

Labelling Chan's call as unprofessional and absurd, MCA National Youth vice-chairperson Chua Hock Kuan (above) said the PKR MP should be rebuked for his unfounded response.

"Any individual who holds valid information or evidence involving the MRT3 project should report it to the police or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) instead of sputtering aimlessly devoid of reason.

"Perhaps because he is facing his party's elections, he, therefore, deliberately issues baseless statements to gain cheap publicity," he said.

Chang had on Monday expressed doubts about the sustainability of the government's financial model for the MRT3 project.

Chang alleged that the financing entities and operator for rail projects, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and DanaInfra Nasional Berhad, had breached their debt levels.

He further claimed that if the ridership for the MRT2 and MRT3 projects did not match the government's expectations, Prasarana would not be able to sustain itself.

Chan rebuts by citing economists' opinions that the future operations of the MRT3 will revive and benefit the construction industry.

"Thus, the approval of the MRT3 project by the government is timely and is good news for the industry.

"Chang's tactics today are identical to those of the previous Pakatan Harapan government's actions which deliberately delayed various mega projects resulting in sharp increases in costs.

"These include the High Speed Rail (HSR) project, which to date has yet to be reinstated, thus denying the country a chance to revive the economy," he added.

Previously, Chang had called for the government to halt its implementation of the MRT3 project to allow more scrutiny over the project by the parliamentary select committees. - Mkini
