HANOI: Any chance of Malaysia retaining the men's 100m gold went out the window after the country's two sprinters experienced a false start and got injured at the Hanoi Sea Games today.

Azeem Fahmi was disqualified from the century sprint in the heats after committing a false start at the My Dinh National Stadium.

Compatriot Arsyad Md Saat suffered a hamstring injury in the semi-finals and struggled to sixth place in the final in a time of 10.69s.

As expected, Thai teen phenom Puripol Boonson won the gold in a time of 10.44 with compatriot Soraoat Dapbang (10.56) claiming silver. Singapore's Marc Brian Louis (10.56) completed the podium.

The Philippines won the women's 100m gold through Kayla Richardson (11.60), with Singapore's Veronica Shanti Pereira (11.62) and Thailand's Supanich Poolkerd coming in second and third.

Malaysia's Azreen Nabila Alias (11.99) and Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli (12.11) finished seventh and eighth.
