With results in for the PKR Selangor polls, Selangor Menteri Besar Amiruddin Shari has defeated Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak in the hotly contested Gombak division.
The Gombak division chief post was won in the last three elections by former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, who defected as one of the masterminds of the Sheraton Move that plunged Malaysia into prolonged political chaos.
Amiruddin did not defect alongside Azmin and has remained as Selangor MB, but Farhash’s challenge was seen as a move to force him out. He bagged 1,858 votes compared to Farhash’s 1,215.
Overall, the hot contest for PKR deputy president saw former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli edge further ahead of Saifuddin Nasution Ismail with 24,792 votes to 20,538. The majority of 4,254 did not include votes in Bangi. Rafizi had earlier picked up 2,427 votes against Saifuddin Nasution’s 1,468 in Malacca.
In one of the more hotly contested seats, Daing Md Redzuan Bachok (942 votes) beat out both actor Hans Isaac (609) and rapper Altimet@Syed Ahmad Abdul Rahman (589) to win in Ampang. Ampang was won in 2008, 2013 and 2018 by the local MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, who also defected from PKR to Bersatu in the Sheraton Move.
Meanwhile, Fahmi Zainol trailed Adam Adli in the race to be the party’s youth chief, with the latter bagging 6,086 compared to Fahmi’s 4,629.
Similarly, Senator Fadhlina Sidek obtained 10,155 votes in the race to be the Women’s chief while Rodziah Ismail got 9,155.
The top four places in the vice-presidential race in Selangor voting went to Amiruddin, Farhash, Hang Tuah Jaya MP Shamsul Iskandar and MA Tinagaran. - Mkini
