PETALING JAYA: It was a sad Hari Raya for three siblings in Sungai Petani, Kedah, this year as they lost both their mother and father within 12 hours on the second day of the festivities.
Farahana Mohd Fakri, 28, and her two younger sisters lost their mother, Norsah Chik, yesterday after the 59-year-old died at 8.50am following a battle with stage four intestinal cancer.
Exactly 12 hours later, their father, Fakri Abdullah, died at the hospital from a heart attack. He was 60.
Farahana told Harian Metro that their mother had gone for a check-up at Hospital Yan on April 5 after starting to lose a lot of weight and experiencing yellowness in her eyes.
She was then transferred to Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim in Sungai Petani for further tests, before the doctors broke the news that she had cancer.
The doctors wanted to conduct surgery to remove the growths, but the three siblings decided to take her home and care for their mother, up until her passing yesterday.
Meanwhile, their father had been admitted to the same hospital last Saturday after complaining of chest pains. He was put under induced coma while being treated.
While the siblings were busy arranging for their mother’s funeral yesterday, they were contacted by the hospital, urging them to rush over as their father’s condition had deteriorated.
“As soon as we arrived at the hospital, we managed to ask for forgiveness from him while informing him that mum had passed away. But he was already unconscious at the time.
“The doctors confirmed that he passed away at 8.50pm due to a heart attack. My siblings and I are resigned to the fact that our beloved parents left on the same day,” she told the Malay daily.
Both Norsah and Fakri were laid to rest next to each other at the Kampung Kolam Muslim cemetery in Guar Chempedak. - FMT
