PETALING JAYA: A suspected member of the Abu Sayyaf militant group carrying a Malaysian passport was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila on May 10.
According to the Manila Standard, Philippine police were tipped off about the arrival of a Malaysian passport holder named Omar Harun alias Airola-Adjustable around 5pm from Malaysia via Philippines Airlines.
The 52-year-old man is said to be a security guard and a resident of Zamboanga City. He is wanted for alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a Jehovah’s Witness member in 2002.
“Armed with an arrest warrant, the south police district men with help from personnel of the Bureau of Immigration, Aviation Security Group, and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport police apprehended the suspect upon arrival,” the report said.
Preliminary investigation showed the suspect had used the Malaysian passport to conceal his real identity.
The report said Omar was the fourth member of the Abu Sayyaf group under the leadership of one Radullan Sahiron to be arrested by the south police district. - FMT
