Unforgettable Raya for two sisters, reunited after 50 years

Badliyah Din spoke to her long-lost sister Che Puteh through a video chat yesterday.

PETALING JAYA: For Badliyah Din, the Raya celebration this year has to be the most meaningful one.

This came after the 62-year-old spoke to her elder sister for the first time after being separated for 50 years.

And while she has yet to embrace her sibling, Badliyah considers the 20-minute video call she had with Che Puteh a “blessing” from God, reports Utusan Malaysia.

Badliyah resides in Felda Padang Piol, Jerantut, while Che Puteh is in Sungai Nibong, Penang.

Badliyah said she was separated from her sister, whom she calls “Kak Teh” in 1973.

“I used to really miss her a lot during Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“Since both of us are old and ill, I had hoped to see her before I passed on. I thank Allah for this blessing,” the Malay daily quoted her as saying.

Badliyah said Che Puteh ran away from home in Kampung Pantai Perai, Kedah, after their parents objected to her plans to tie the knot with a man, who was believed to be already married.

She settled in Pahang, before later moving to Penang.

Badliyah recalled the time when Che Puteh used to buy new clothes for her and the other siblings when they were young.

Che Puteh was then working as a factory worker in Penang and spent a lot on the family during the Raya celebrations.

“I am grateful for what she had done for us.

“I am yearning to be reunited with my sister, who is a breast cancer patient, and living with her 80-year-old husband.”

Badliyah said she and her husband, Soid Bidin, 69, planned to meet Che Puteh in person in Sungai Nibong next week.

She also hoped Che Puteh would also be able to meet their other siblings staying in Kedah and Perlis. - FMT
