Ten Pakatan Harapan leaders have been summoned for questioning over their involvement in a protest against the rising price of goods yesterday.
Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda, who is a lawyer with Amanah’s legal bureau, said the Dang Wangi district police headquarters have launched an investigation under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 against them.
“Lawyers from (Amanah’s legal bureau) will accompany the leaders to give their statement at IPD Dang Wangi at 10am on Monday to record their statement,” he said in a statement last night.
He did not name who had been summoned for questioning, but Johor DAP deputy chief Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali posted on Facebook that the police have contacted him.
The group had held a brief protest outside Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru after Friday prayers.
Apart from Umar, those present include Amanah communications director Khalid Samad, Taman Templer assemblyperson Sany Hazman, and Permatang Pasir assemblyperson Faiz Fadzil.
It is understood that both Khalid and Umar will be questioned today.
About 50 people attended the protest.
They demanded the government introduce subsidies, dismantle the approved import permit (AP) system, and convene a special parliamentary session to discuss the nation’s food security.
This is despite the government’s decision to no longer require AP to import foodstuff and reinstating subsidies previously channelled directly to chicken farmers. - Mkini
