PAS has reminded its members that the party will take action against members who do not support the party’s agenda to unite Muslims and cohesion among other ethnic groups.
“PAS will take action against any leader or members who do things which do not support unity or create fissures among communities,” said party secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.
Takiyuddin’s (above) reminder was a response to the Selangor ruler’s call for less factionalism among Malay political leaders.
The Selangor ruler said the lessons to be learned from the Mat Kilau film was that factionalism among Malays can lead to the country being subject to external control.
“It delivers a message to the Malays that the strength of a nation lies in the spirit of unity and adherence to Islam,” he said.
Over the past year, PAS had shown signs that it will not tolerate a debate on the party’s choice of allies.
During the PAS annual delegates assembly last November, the party reiterated that its goals were to create an alliance with majority-Muslim parties such as Umno and Bersatu.
Those who were more partial towards Umno - such as Khairuddin Aman Razali and Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz - were voted out of the PAS leadership at that meeting.
Khairuddin eventually quit PAS. - Mkini
