PASIR SALAK: The government has never sat idly doing nothing (berpeluk tubuh) to address the cost of living issue, stressed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
"Last week at the compound of Masjid Jamek in Kampung Baru, one of the opposition parties held a demonstration after Friday prayers and about 40 to 50 people joined.
"Various allegations were made against the government as if the government has not done anything (berpeluk tubuh) to address the issues concerning the cost of living these days.
"The government realises that there are indeed rising prices of goods. I randomly checked at business premises, supermarkets to look at this issue," he said in his closing speech at the Jelajah Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia or Malaysian Family Aspirations (AKM) Tour at Litar Dato' Sagor in Kampung Gajah here, today.
He repeated that to ensure the people were not burdened by the situation, the government has provided RM70 billion in subsidies this year.
"This phenomenon is not only happening in Malaysia but globally.
"For example, we don't import chicken. Based on the self-sufficiency level (SSL) for chicken, our supply surpassed demands by 113 per cent," he said. - NST
