PETALING JAYA: The government must be firm in taking legal action against developers who are unable to complete housing projects on time, says Ahmad Maslan (BN-Pontian).
He said such companies should be blacklisted and brought to court.
“These companies need to be brought to face justice and must refund the money paid by the house buyers. Blacklist (them) and bring them to court,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
Ahmad said the companies could be considered as having cheated the buyers as they had stated in their advertisements that the projects would be completed within three years or so, but failed to meet the deadline.
He was responding to Azizah Mohd Dun (PN-Beaufort), who asked the housing and local government ministry what efforts it was taking to resolve the issue of abandoned housing projects post-Covid-19.
Deputy housing and local government minister Ismail Abd Muttalib said action had already been taken against such companies.
He said the action of these companies not only affected the buyers but also the government, which had to fork out funds to pay other companies to rehabilitate the abandoned projects. - FMT
