Bukit Aman summons ex-senator over subsidies TikTok video

Former senator Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail has been summoned by Bukit Aman over her viral TikTok video addressing the removal of subsidies by the government.

According to a report by Free Malaysia Today, the former single-term senator said she was initially asked to go to the police headquarters on Monday to make a statement.

However, she requested an interview date after Hari Raya Aidiladha, to which the police agreed.

Last week, Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said that Siti Aishah had a statement recorded from her by an officer from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for the purpose of investigation.

It is understood that the investigation on the 39-year-old, who was appointed as a senator on June 22, 2015, was made under the MCMC Act 1998.

She had uploaded a video recording on TikTok over the subsidy issue, claiming that various subsidies would be abolished from July 1, which could result in public anger against the government.

According to Siti Aishah, about eight or nine police and MCMC officers came to her home. They escorted her in three vehicles to the Ipoh district police headquarters where she had her statement recorded during a grilling of more than three hours.

She claimed that her handphone was confiscated during her ordeal.
