PETALING JAYA: Corporate figure and founder of property developer Emkay Group, Mustapha Kamal Abu Bakar, died this morning at the age of 73.
Astro Awani reported that the chairman of Setia Haruman Sdn Bhd died at 7.45am at the National Heart Institute (IJN). He will be laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim cemetery today.
Previously dubbed as an “icon of affordable housing”, Mustapha founded Emkay in 1983. He was also the co-founder of MK Land Holdings Berhad.
He began his career as a civil servant with the Selangor government, going on to serve as a deputy commissioner at the lands and mines department.
He then ventured into the private sector, starting off as the managing director of Shah Alam Properties Sdn Bhd before later forming Emkay Group. - FMT
