KUALA LUMPUR: Speaker Azhar Harun has expressed disappointment over the conduct of several opposition MPs amid Isnaraissah Munirah’s ejection from the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
Azhar said the MPs showed no respect for the Dewan Rakyat’s sergeants-at-arms who were unable to escort the Warisan MP for Kota Belud out of the hall after they formed a ring around her.
“If MPs wish to speak out against me, go ahead. I can take it as the Speaker. But to disrespect the young staff who are working here makes me very disappointed,” he said.
Azhar said two sergeants-at-arms were forced to wait for 40 minutes before they were able to escort Isnaraissah out of the lower house.
He urged all MPs to abide by any ruling he made rather than making a “fuss”.
He was responding to Rozman Isli (Warisan-Labuan), who questioned if Isnaraissah’s ejection and two-day suspension had been retracted.
Azhar said that as far as he knew, the suspension remained in place.
Isnaraissah was ejected from the Dewan Rakyat yesterday and suspended for two days after getting into an argument with Azhar.
She had questioned why her motion to debate the Sulu arbitration issue was rejected three times, asking if the Dewan Rakyat did not care about the matter since it only concerned Sabah. - FMT
