KUALA LUMPUR: Cabinet minister Annuar Musa said today that it was not wrong for Perikatan Nasional (PN) to request for a position of deputy prime minister (DPM) as the party is a member of the ruling coalition.
“But the appointment of (a DPM) and of ministers is the prime minister’s prerogative. It is up to the prime minister to make the call,” he said here.
Annuar had been asked about the statement by PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday that he had met Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to discuss Cabinet appointments, during which the appointment of a deputy prime minister was raised.
Muhyiddin said the appointment of a DPM is part of the agreement between PN and Ismail, whose government is supported by a coalition made up of Barisan Nasional, PN, GPS and other parties.
However, former prime minister Najib Razak said Muhyiddin had misplaced his priorities by raising the matter at a time when Malaysians are struggling with the rising cost of living. - FMT
